Three Tips for Maintaining and Waterproofing Your Commercial Building

You never get a second chance to make a first impression, as we all know. For your commercial building, that first impression is its exterior. When clients come to your location, they’ll judge you based on the cleanliness of your property, and the cleanliness and upkeep of your building’s exterior. It’s just human nature to judge a book by its cover, no matter what we say about beauty being about what’s inside.

If you follow these three simple tips, you can make your building look more attractive and appealing to potential clients, and that effort will definitely pay dividends!

Tip 1: Reclad the exterior

Recladding is a great way to improve the look of your property. You could even drastically switch up the look of your building, and reclad your exterior walls with something new like brick, or perhaps something more exotic like river stone. Recladding doesn’t just make your building look nicer; it can also assist with waterproofing and fixing leaks. Also, the process of recladding will let you make a thorough examination of your building, so if there are any major areas in need of repair, you’ll likely discover those problems and be able to solve them as well.

Tip 2: Change your siding

Cracked or busted siding is an eyesore that is, unfortunately, all too common in the exteriors of many businesses. Bad siding isn’t just an eyesore, but it also allows leaks into your building, and increases your heating and cooling costs. Repairing or changing your siding can be an investment upfront, but is likely to save you thousands of dollars over the long run by protecting the interior of your building from damage.

If you’re not sure whether or not your building needs new siding, closely examine the interior of your building. If you notice that you see runny looking paint, or paint that’s pealing or chipping, this could be a problem that’s caused by too much moisture being let into your building through its exterior siding, and you may therefore be in need of waterproofing in Indianapolis, IN.

Tip 3: Upgrade your exterior finish to something easier to maintain

We recommend an exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS), which is a modern type of finishing system that’s so strong it can literally withstand an earthquake. Using an exterior insulation finishing system provides waterproofing, and an attractive exterior for your building, while also providing additional insulation to your structure. The initial investment will pay for itself overtime in energy savings and in repair and maintenance savings.

With so much rain here lately, I’m glad that companies take the time to waterproof their buildings. I like that you mention how upgrading your building exterior can help make it waterproof and more attractive. I wonder if buildings around here use EIFS for their finish.
